Karina Lapp, CPA - Managing Partner
Karina has 33 years of CPA firm experience and has been with Hathaway, Ksenzulak & Lapp, LLP for 25 of those years. She specializes in individual, corporate, estate, and trust tax preparation and planning. Additionally, she has extensive experience in financial statement preparation and tax returns for the construction industry.
Karina received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting from California State University, Chico. After completing her education, she returned to her home town of Redding, California to start her career. Community involvement has played an important part in Karina’s life. She is currently the treasurer of the Shasta Library Foundation, Northstate Shasta Odyssey of the Mind, and Igo Ono Volunteer Fire Company.
When Karina is not in the office, you can find her in the beautiful outdoors backpacking, hiking, running, skiing, or improving the acreage that she and her husband own.
Patty Brandon-Waterman, CPA
Patty is a CPA and an Enrolled Agent. She has been with Hathaway, Ksenzulak & Lapp, LLP for 6 years. Prior to becoming a CPA, Patty had 20 years of experience in finance. Patty’s skills and experience are in individual, corporate and non-profit tax preparation. She is also a member of our audit and attestation team.
She has a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from the National University. She is a member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and the California Society of CPAs (CalCPA).
Patty is a long-time resident of Shasta County. When Patty is not in the office, she enjoys traveling with her husband and son, spending time golfing with friends and family. On rainy days when the sun isn’t shining, you can find Patty curled up indoors with a good book.
John Baker, CPA
John joined Hathaway, Ksenzulak & Lapp, LLP in 2015. He has experience in tax preparation for individuals and small businesses. He is also a member of HKL’s audit and attestation team.
John received his Bachelor of Science in accounting from Chico State University. While attending, he was a member of the Chico State Accounting Society on campus. He is currently a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants (CalCPA). John obtained his CPA license in 2016.
When John is not in the office, you will find him outdoors. He enjoys riding his mountain bike, hiking, and camping. He also enjoys time with his family and friends.
John loves running. If you attend any of the local running events, such as the Frosty Fun Runs, Sunset Through the Trees, or Moonshine Madness, there is a chance that he might be involved.
Thomas Clifton, CPA - Retired
Tom has been in public accounting practice for more than forty years. The CPA license was earned in 1977 while practicing (and skiing) in Mammoth Lakes, California. He began practice in Redding during 1980 and provided tax and accounting services to individuals, partnerships, corporations, and fiduciary entities. He merged his sole proprietorship with Hathaway, Ksenzulak & Lapp, LLP in 2012.
After serving in the U. S. Navy, Tom earned his Bachelor of Science degree, accounting major from California State University, Northridge in January, 1970. A Master of Science degree, majoring in tax was earned from the College of Financial Planning during 1997. Upon graduating in 1970, he began his career as a tax auditor with the Los Angeles County Assessors for three years. A balance of work with pleasure has always been important. While pursuing outdoor activities (tennis, skiing, white-water kayaking, fly fishing, backpacking, and mountain climbing) he provided quality professional services and trust for his client. Tom has volunteered to serve various non-profit organizations in the Redding area through the years. He now enjoys more leisure time with family and friends.
Sherri Lawrence, CPA - Retired
Sherri has been a CPA for 29 years and has been with Hathaway, Ksenzulak & Lapp, LLP for 5 years. She specializes in individual, corporate, estate, and trust tax preparation and planning. Additionally, she has experience in tax returns for non-profit organizations.
Sherri received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting from Chapman University. She then went on to receive her Master of Science in Taxation from William Howard Taft University. Community involvement is very important to Sherri and she currently serves as the treasurer of the Foundation for Students of the Shasta Union High School District. She is also an active member of First Christian Church in Redding, which includes serving on the Finance Committee.
When Sherri is not in the office, you might find her reading, walking in the beautiful outdoors, playing the piano, at a Giants baseball game, or with her grandson, Carter.
Lucky Singh, Staff Accountant
Lucky joined Hathaway, Ksenzulak & Lapp in 2017. He has experience in Business and Individual tax preparation. Also at HKL, Lucky is a member of the audit and attestation team.
Lucky received his Bachelor’s degree with concentration on Accounting and minors in Mathematics and Computer Info. Systems from Baruch College, New York. Currently Lucky is preparing for the CPA exam.
When not working, Lucky enjoys outdoors, documentaries, basketball and spending time with family & friends.
Jill McCloughan, Bookkeeper
Jill has lived and worked in Northern California her entire life. After graduating high school, and attending Shasta College, she started working full time for the State of California in Human Resources, Accounting, and Labor Relations. After 18 years she decided to take her Accounting and Payroll experience to the private sector and into Public Accounting. While raising two children, her passion is helping small business owners achieve their dreams by assisting them with payroll and bookkeeping, so they can focus on their trade. In September 2017, she joined Hathaway, Ksenzulak & Lapp. Jill is now working full-time as the Bookkeeper and is dedicated and proud of the team that comprises this office.
When not at work she enjoys attending her children’s sports and activities, traveling with her husband, reading and running the beautiful trails in the mountains and parks around Redding, CA.
Kayla Kubat, Bookkeeper
Kayla joined Hathaway, Ksenzulak & Lapp, LLP in 2018. She has experience in bookkeeping, business management, and internal auditing. Kayla received her Bachelor of Science in accounting from Azusa Pacific University. Before joining the HKL team, she used her various business and accounting skills in the private sector. Kayla now enjoys working in the public sector and having the capability to assist a wide variety of small businesses in the North State.
Kayla recently relocated to Redding, CA to be closer to family and start a family of her own. When not in the office, she enjoys spending time with her family and being anywhere near the water.
Jill McKinley, Office Manager
Jill has lived in Redding, CA her entire life. After graduating high school, and while attending Shasta College, she started working part-time in an accounting office as an administrative assistant. Throughout the next 20 years she continued to work part-time, at the same accounting firm, so she could spend quality time raising her three children. On January 1, 2010, she joined Hathaway, Ksenzulak & Lapp. Jill is now working full-time as the Office Manager and is dedicated and proud of the team that comprises this office.
When not at work she enjoys spending time and creating a comfortable home for her family. She also enjoys traveling to visit friends and family, watching movies, and attending every possible activity that her kids are involved in.
